During my visit to BML16 this year, I happened upon an app which I hadn’t heard of before by the name of Touchnote. As a result, we got talking, I was approached to become one of their brand ambassadors and now, you may have noticed, that I have a brand new badge on my sidebar!
Touchnote happen to be the world’s most popular postcard-sending service (a review of their postcards and a giveaway to follow) and they started up in London back in 2008. Since then they have gone on to sell over 6 million postcards worldwide.
Just after I finally won a court case in which I was fighting to get the money owed to me from a house which I co-owned with my ex, I decided to treat Grace and I to a holiday. We needed it after all we had been through. So, I decided on a trip to Disneyland Paris. By coincidence, my sister and her family were going the same weekend which I chose and so, it meant we not only made memories by ourselves but also with some of our extended family. We travelled via Eurostar and got a pass which took us straight into the park whilst the luggage went off to the Deam Castle Hotel where we were staying.
Over the 4 nights we were there we met countless Disney characters, went on loads of rides and experienced Cafe Mickey where there were even more characters to meet and where the waiters danced on the tables! We also visited Walt Disney Studios where Grace met her very favourite – Stitch – we went and saw an interactive Stitch film, visited all the Toy Story attractions and went on the Toy Story Soldiers parachute drop (definitely Grace’s favourite ride of the trip). I was so surprised at how well-behaved she was. She was only 3 and we waited in queues for over an hour and a half on many occasions.
It was these memories that all came flooding back our chosen Print Box dropped through our letterbox this week. The design I chose was suitable for the subject in the fact that it had colourful balloons all over it. It reminded me of that parachute drop! The label confirms Disneyland Paris September 2010 and the photographs – to my surprise – were fabulous quality. I say ‘my surprise’ because I didn’t think that they would be that good being that they were taken on a phone, but I am really pleased with them.
Touchnote know – as do most of us – that a majority of people have either an iPhone or iPad that they take photographs on. I know back then that I certainly did! As a result, they have created a smart algorithm based on how people take photos. The app uses your phone’s geo-location technology to pinpoint exactly where you are in the world and when your photos were taken. It recognises the quality of your pictures as well as the quantity and then, using clever technology, it then pre-selects 36 of your best and then places them in a Print Box in the app on your iPhone or iPad.
However many photographs you might have taken – even if it was of the same subject (something I regularly do!) it will pre-select just the best one and if any of your images are either pixelated or out of focus it will leave those out. Once this has been done and you are ready to take a look through before placing your order, you will still be able to make changes. So, for example, if there was a photo memory that you would prefer to have over one which Touchnote pre-selects then you would be able to make changes. Once done, and you are ready to order, then you will also have the option of 4 beautifully designed boxes, together with a label denoting where and when the photos were taken, in which to hold the memories you have made.
Print Box is only currently available on iPhone and iPad for trips abroad (outside UK) and needs a minimum of 20 photos to create a Print Box in the App, however, future developments will include UK holidays for UK-registered devices and a free-form box which will allow customers to pick and choose any photos they would like to print. The photographs themselves are printed on high quality FujiFilm photo paper with a gloss finish sized 6“ x 4.5” so no photo cropping is required.
Currently Print Box are just 5 credits (or £9.95) as a special introductory offer which includes free worldwide delivery and sent in 2-3 days if ordered Monday to Friday (3-4 days for weekend orders).
