A Review of Royal China Baker Street
It seems like forever ago now that Ross and I had a small break away from our children. The two night stay in Alton was combined with a theatre trip to London together with a meal afterwards at Royal China, Baker Street.
About Royal China
The Royal China Group consists of five of London’s most authentic and prestigious Chinese restaurants, including the luxurious and critically-acclaimed Royal China Club.
The restaurants all have elegant décor, contrasting rich golden hues with striking red and black features. Lacquered murals depicting an ornate Chinese illustration create a focal point within each of the five restaurants. The capacity of the restaurants varies in size from 55 to 150 covers.

The Royal China restaurants offer traditional Hong Kong Chinese dishes, while the Royal China Club provides an exclusive experience by combining European ingredients within the authentic Chinese cuisine. The group is renowned for its Dim Sum, which is served daily from Noon until 5pm and includes Steamed Seafood Dumplings with Spicy Sauce; and Pan-fried Fillet of Duck Breast Rolls. Each restaurant has a dedicated Dim Sum Chef, as well as a Head Chef.

The Royal China restaurants have the same à la carte menus. In addition, each restaurant dedicates a full page to signature dishes created by the restaurant’s individual Head Chefs. These dishes are changed frequently, while the seasonal dishes are changed four times a year. Set seven-course tasting menus are also available in all Royal China restaurants.
Royal China, Baker Street
The second restaurant located on Baker Street, this is the largest restaurant within the Royal China Group, seating 150 guests. They offer a traditional Hong Kong Chinese menu, with delicious favourites such as Aromatic Crispy Duck served with pancakes, spring onion and cucumber.
With its open-plan dining room and signature Chinese décor, the Royal China on Baker Street restaurant offers a relaxed and vibrant space, perfect for larger families and groups of friends dining together

The dining area seats 86 guests, while an elegant private banqueting room to the rear of the restaurant accommodates up to 22 guests.
We were sat towards the front of the restaurant, near the window. The tables were spaced apart nicely so you didn’t feel you were intruding on anyone else’s conversation.
What We Ordered
As I was following the Slimming World plan, I had to be fairly mindful of what I had but, I am pretty well-versed now in what it is best to order to make sure I remain within the realms of healthy eating.
For our appetizers, we ordered the grilled meat dumplings, steamed chilli pork dumplings and the spicy smoked shredded chicken.

For main course, we chose honey roasted pork, crispy noodles with chicken in black bean sauce, fillet steak and some egg fried rice.
We also ordered a half bottle of hot sake (rice wine).
Ross and I both agreed that everything was beautifully cooked and well-presented. There was a little too much for both of us so we chose to take the crispy noodles away with us. The honey roast pork was our favourite dish and I had heard lots of good things about the dumplings which did not disappoint.

The Atmosphere
Ross and I really enjoyed sitting in the restaurant. There were plenty of larger families towards the back and couples were sat at the front of the restaurant. I definitely felt that this was a good layout – not least for the fact that we were spending a couple of days away from the kids!

Our Thoughts
The restaurant was easy to find and the staff were friendly and welcoming. There is plenty of room inside and the restaurant would suit a variety of diners, whether it be for a small, intimate meal for two or a larger celebration.

The food is all beautifully cooked, well presented and was served in a timely manner without feeling like you had to wait too long or like you were being rushed – a tricky juggling act for any establishment!
The prices were consistent with a London restaurant and reflected what was ordered.
We would definitely return if the chance presented itself again!
