5 Outdoor Activities to Try in the Lake District

After several quiet months in the Lake District, things are starting to reawaken and the many businesses that rely on the tourism industry are beginning to reopen.
One such business is Keswick Adventures, an outdoor activity provider based in the market town of Keswick in the north of the national park. Having opened with reduced numbers a couple of weeks ago, they are celebrating as people start to return to the Lake District.
With summer upon us, it’s the perfect time to get out and about in the beautiful scenery offered by the area. Adrenaline junkies and peace-seekers alike can enjoy activities in the great outdoors, with a huge array of activities on offer.
Set up by Lee Simpson over 20 years ago, Keswick Adventures is one of the leading providers in the area, know for their fun activities, expert guides, and top-quality equipment. They even have a Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor thanks to their fantastic customer reviews.
Offering everything from ghyll scrambling and raft building to paddle boarding and kayaking, they’re enthusiastic about sharing their array of activities with everyone who visits.
Here are some of the fantastic adventures you can try alone or with the family during your visit to the Lake District.
Ghyll scrambling

A staple outdoor activity for summer camps, ghyll scrambling is still one of the most popular adventures in the Lake District for all ages. It sees you sliding down streams, swimming through deep pools, and jumping down (small!) waterfalls.
Canyoning

If you love ghyll scrambling but are looking for something more extreme, then canyoning is the way to go. Keswick Adventures takes you to a secret spot in the Lake District – away from the busy tourist areas – where you make your way down a deep canyon carved out by the river over hundreds and thousands of years. As well as the usual splashing and sliding you would expect from ghyll scrambling, you’ll also abseil, zip wire and leap over (bigger!) waterfalls.
Kayaking

Maybe you want to get out onto the water without pumping your body full of adrenaline. That’s okay, too! The Lake District could be the best place in England for kayaking, with its lakes, rivers, and even the lesser-explored coast to the west. Absolutely ideal for families, or even for a couple’s or solo trip if you’re without the kids for the day, kayaking is a relaxing way of taking in the gorgeous scenery of the Lake District from the water.
Paddle boarding

Paddle boarding seems to have really taken off in the last few years, and it’s on a lot of peoples to-do list. Things are no different in the Lakes where you can push off onto Derwentwater and the rivers around Keswick. I’m told it’s not as easy as it looks, though, and takes a fair bit of balance, so prepare to get wet!
Canoe & Camping Expeditions
Now this one’s a little different! If you’re in the mood to get away from the modern world, then a canoe and camping expedition could be just the ticket. Keswick Adventures runs completely bespoke overnight trips. Sail over the water, taking in the sights, before setting up camp next to the lake. Think starry nights, gently lapping water, and toasting marshmallows.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I’m feeling up for a trip to the Lake District! If you’re heading to the national park, Keswick Adventures is now open for bookings. Find out more at keswickadventures.co.uk or call 07712 162088.
